Engine 12 is a 1973 Mack CF 600 pumper that retired in 2004 from Clinton City Volunteer Fire Department in Clinton, IN. It has left and right side 5 inch and gated 2.5 inch suction bringing water to the 1000 gallon per minute Watreous pump. This pump outputs water to five 2.5 inch discharges, one 1.5 inch rear discharge, a 1.5 inch motorized hose reel, and a powerful 2 inch stream deck gun. The deck gun projects water up to 200 yards. With a 500 gallon onboard water tank, this engine needs no hydrant supply. Pull up, engage the pump, and water flows.
The engine is a 672 cubic inch Mack 6 cylinder turbo diesel mated to a 5 speed manual transmission with only 34k total miles: about 1,000 for each year of service.
All lights, sirens, and public address features from the Federal Interceptor Siren System are fully functional. Two front flashers and a “crazy eight” pattern Mars light combined with a rotating roof light, blinking side lights, two rear flashers, two hose-bed halogen lights, and two cab-operated hand spot lights mean total illumination and visibility.
Additionally, Engine 12 has an onboard circuit breaker that regulates two 500 watt halogen light towers as well as two standard 115v/15a 3-prong outlets and one 230 v outlet. With the functional gas generator, all of this scene lighting can be run without the need for an external power supply.
Engine 12 has front facing seating for 6 adults or 9 children, complete with seat-belts. The seats are Freedman FSC seat/back cushioned fold-aways with level-3 vinyl that is Mildew, Oil and Sulfide Stain Resistant with Anti-microbial Protection and meet Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 302. These seats can be folded seatback-forward to make a table. It also has two seat-belted rear facing jump-seats and secure seating for two passengers in the cab, which equals a driver + 10 adult passengers in complete safety and comfort. Additionally, the hose bed area has standing room for up to 6 more passengers for parade use.
The obvious advantage of Engine 12 is the onboard water feature, which means you can bring water to your car-wash fundraiser, block party, or other event. No hydrant hook up is necessary until a refill is needed, in which case a common garden hose can also be used.
